BURTON & MAYER, INC. RECEIVES
FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL CHAIN-OF-CUSTODY CERTIFICATION

Menomonee Falls, WI – 7/18/2007 – The SmartWood Program of the Rainforest Alliance announced today that Burton & Mayer, Inc. has qualified for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification through their Chain-of-Custody Certification Program by Smartwood. This Chain-of-Custody Certification is a process of tracking and documenting the ownership of wood products from the forest through the various stages of production to the end user. It allows Burton & Mayer’s customers who choose FSC certified paper to have the FSC and Rainforest Alliance logos printed on their pieces, and promote themselves as conforming to FSC standards.

The Forest Stewardship Council is an independent, non-profit organization headquartered in Bonn, Germany, and is dedicated to the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable method. Landowners and companies that sell forest products seek certification as a way to verify to consumers that they have practiced forestry consistent with FSC standards. Independent certification organizations, such as SmartWood, are accredited by FSC to carry out assessments of forest management to insure that standards are being met. These certifiers also verify that companies, such as Burton & Mayer, claiming to sell FSC-certified products have tracked their supply back to FSC-certified sources.
